Red currant jam – currants preservation recipe for the winter, you can cook jam or compote from red currants, but the most delicious is jam. If the jam requires as much sugar as the berries, the red currant jam uses less sugar. In order for the red currant berries to grind better, they should first be slightly boiled in a small amount of water. A similar recipe can be used to make black currant jam.

Sugar 300 g
Water 100 ml

Cooking Recipe

To cook a red currant jam recipe, put the berries in a colander and rinse under running water.

Gently separate the washed and dried red currants from the twigs, add water and put on medium heat. Cook the red currants for 5 minutes.

Next, transfer the red currants to a sieve and grind with a spoon. Do not put a lot of currants in a sieve at once, it is easier to grind it in small portions.

Mix the mashed red currants with sugar and put on fire. When red currant jam boil, reduce heat to low and cook for about 30 minutes more.

Transfer the finished red currant jam to sterilized glass jars and seal. This red currant jam can be used in some national cuisines, for example, in Swedish cuisine, as a sauce for meat dishes.
