For the American apple pie recipe, mix the sifted flour with salt, finely chop the butter or margarine and grind into crumbs with flour. After driving in an egg, if not enough, then add one more, and knead the dough. The dough should look like plasticine. Roll the prepared dough into a ball, cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
