Apple butter is an American recipe that is somewhat reminiscent of jam, but not so sweet due to the addition of apple cider vinegar. This butter can be stored in the refrigerator for quite a long time. It can also be transferred to sterilized jars and sealed.

Recipe Ingredients

Apples 1,3 kg
Salt 0,5 tsp
Water 250 ml
Brown Sugar 1 cup
Ground Cinnamon 1/4 tsp
Ground Cloves 1/8 tsp
Star Anise 1/8 tsp
Ground Cardamom 1/8 tsp

Cooking Recipe

The recipe for apple butter is very simple. First, you need to prepare all the products. Measure out all the dry and liquid ingredients, wash the apples and cut them into four pieces. Cut out the core, no need to cut off the skin.

Pour water and vinegar into a saucepan, add salt and chopped apples. Put the saucepan on the fire and cover with a lid, but not tightly. Cook the apples over medium heat for 20-30 minutes or until the liquid has almost evaporated.

Once the apples are soft and most of the liquid has evaporated, you need to make a puree. This can be done using an immersion blender, and then rub through a sieve to remove the skin. Transfer the applesauce to a saucepan and add the remaining ingredients except vanilla and put on low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apple butter darkens and becomes thick, about 15-20 minutes. Finally, add vanilla extract.
