Churek bread is a recipe for Azerbaijani cuisine, bread can be sprinkled with poppy seeds or sesame seeds before baking, and churek is baked in Azerbaijan in a tandir.

Recipe Ingredients

Water 500 ml
Sour Milk 50 ml
Sugar 1 tbsp
Salt 1 tsp

Cooking Recipe

To cook churek according to the recipe of Azerbaijani cuisine, dilute the yeast in warm water, add sugar and half the flour. Stir and put in heat for 1 hour.

When the dough rises, add salt, the remaining flour and knead the dough. It is necessary to knead the dough for 15 minutes, and then put it back in heat for 1-1.5 hours. While the dough is coming up, it must be kneaded twice.

Divide the finished dough into 2 parts, stretch the dough in the form of an oval with your hands, make it thinner in the middle, and thicker towards the edges.

Place the tortillas on a floured baking sheet and let the dough rise for 20 minutes. When the cake rises, make cuts with a knife, pierce in several places with a fork, brush with sour milk and put in the oven. Bake churek at 180°C (355°F) for 25-30 minutes.
